To deliver on the ambitions of the Paris Agreement by keeping global average temperature rise below 2ºC, all sectors of the economy must decarbonise. The construction industry currently accounts for a large percentage of global Co2 emissions. The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) aims to eliminate construction sector emissions by 2050.
Structural engineers have a responsibility to help mitigate the effects of carbon emissions, by changing the way buildings and infrastructure are designed & constructed.
GK Engineers have a keen interest in using low carbon technologies & designs. Efficient use of materials is central to this approach, minimising floor slab thicknesses, increasing spans, reducing supports & substructure requirements. Use of post tensioned floor slabs on our projects is one example of this approach.
